Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the right water safety program for your child is an important decision. Here are answers to some of the questions families most often ask about ISR lessons.
-
Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is an individualized survival swim program for infants and young children. Lessons teach age-appropriate skills designed to help children respond more independently in the water, including floating and, as developmentally appropriate, the swim-float-swim sequence.
-
ISR instruction is designed for infants and young children from 6 months through 6 years of age.
-
Lessons are held Monday through Thursday for about 10 minutes each day. Most children complete the program in approximately six weeks, but every child is different. Your child’s progress guides the timeline.
-
Safety comes first. Every lesson is tailored to your child and their individual needs while following ISR’s established safety standards and teaching protocols.
-
Traditional swim lessons focus on learning to swim. ISR begins with survival skills—teaching your child how to respond if they were to reach the water alone. As those skills develop, so do their swimming skills and confidence in the water.
-
Not at all! Many children begin ISR with little to no previous experience in the water. Lessons are tailored to meet your child right where they are.
-
Absolutely. Living in the Lowcountry, children are surrounded by water—from pools and ponds to docks, creeks, and the marsh. Water safety skills are valuable whether or not you have a pool at home.
-
Absolutely! Parents are an important part of the ISR experience. You’ll be encouraged to watch lessons, ask questions, and learn how to support your child’s skills outside of the pool.
-
Some tears are completely normal. Your child is learning new skills in a new environment—and sometimes they’d much rather be snuggling with you! Lessons are always individualized, and your child’s emotional and physical well-being remain the priority as they learn and grow more confident in the water.
-
Availability varies throughout the year, and enrollment is intentionally limited. I recommend reaching out early to discuss upcoming openings and preferred lesson times.
-
Tuition varies based on lesson location and enrollment option. During your complimentary consultation, we'll talk through availability, location, and the corresponding tuition.
-
The first step is to request a complimentary consultation. During our conversation, we’ll talk about your child’s age, developmental readiness, medical history, water experience, and whether ISR is the right fit for your family. From there, you’ll complete the ISR registration and medical review before lessons begin.
